【摘要】:Thistestmethodisintendedtoprovideameasureofthevolumeofdrycoatingobtainablefromagivenvolumeofliquidcoating.Thisvalueisusefulforcomparingthecoverage(squarefeetofsurfacecoveredataspecifieddryfilmthicknessperunitvolume)obtainablewithdifferentcoatingproducts.Forvariousreasonsthevalueobtainedmaynotbeequaltothatpredictedfromsimpleadditivityoftheweightsandvolumesoftherawmaterialsinaformulation.Onereasonisthatthevolumeoccupiedbyasolutionofresininsolventmaybethesame,greater,orlessthanthetotalvolumeoftheseparateingredients:suchcontractionorexpansioninresinsolutionsisgovernedbyanumberoffactors,oneofwhichistheextentanddirectionofspreadbetweensolubilityparametersoftheresinandsolvent.Thespatialconfigurationofthepigmentparticlesandthedegreetowhichthespacesbetweenthepigmentparticlesarefilledwiththebinderalsoaffectthevolumeofadrycoatingformulation.Abovethecriticalpigmentvolumeconcentration,theapparentvolumeofthedryfilmissignificantlygreaterthantheoreticalduetotheincreaseinunfilledvoidsbetweenpigmentparticles.Theuseofvolumenonvolatilemattervaluesinsuchinstancesshouldbecarefullyconsideredastheincreasedvolumeislargelyduetoairtrappedinthesevoids.1.1Thistestmethodisbelievedtobeapplicabletothedeterminationofthevolumeofnonvolatilematterofavarietyofcoatings.Aninterlaboratorystudytoestablishtheprecisionofthistestmethodincludedawater-reducibleexteriorlatexpaintandthreeautomotivecoatingsthatincludedasolvent-reducibleprimersurfacer,waterreducibleprimersurfacer,waterreducibleenameltopcoat,andacrylicdispersionlacquertopcoat.Earliercollaborativestudiesincludedaglossenamel,aflatwallpaint,aglosshouseenamel,anindustrialbakingenamel,aninteriorlatexpaint,andanexteriorlatexpaint.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
